As usual, I was browsing Lowyat.net forums, I stumbled upon this thread . I clicked it, and noticed a picture of the brand new Proton Preve was involved in a side collision with a lorry.

It was also posted in the thread that the occupants in the vehicle was unharmed, only minor scratches. Pretty amazing isnt it that collision like this did not harm the driver that much.. As you can see, the cabin is intact, and its side airbag functioned as they were supposed to. I could not even see any traces of blood scattered around. I also believe that the window had been tinted with security tints as it didnt shatter into pieces and remain intact..

I do think that this car is the most value for money you can buy at its category. At only RM72k, you get (I copied this list from that thread):

auto wiper
auto light
auto dimmed mirror
push start button
audio with ipod connection
built in gps
4 air bags
ESP (electronic stability control)
EBD
ABS
brake assist and traction control
front and rear disc brakes
trunk lid remote release
turbocharged CFE
multifunction steering
projector headlamp
paddle shift
LED daytime running light
larger car with more space
better handling car
higher body rigidity car (RESS)
auto cruise

No competition. The main competitor, u know what it is only offers
ABS, 2 Airbags, and some fancy bodykits at a price of RM90k.
Yet, people buy them for the sake of reliability and resale value. More than the safety of them and their
occupants.

Fikir-Fikir kan lah...

    Hi Mr. Azlan,

Thanks for the preview. I was one of the Preve owner. The first batch, I think. I'm a car lover and one of my hobby is quite awkward, maybe. I'd like to test drive any new car no matter what brand it is. Just want to feel how's those brand in real life, even for an hour.

The first time I drove Preve at Skudai showroom, I was amazed. It's beyond my expectation. In term of everything, except for the 1600 litre turbo charge engine. I dare to expense another RM10K if Proton could offer a 2000 litre turbo charge engine.

Leave out the extras in technology as it's well known that his younger brother, the Suprima won almost everything, except boot size. Just want to share how safe it is based on my experience.

The ABS and traction control works well whilst my car emergency braking from asphalt to the gravel roadside, due to a car suddenly get into my lane while I was 100 km/h speed. Quite good for a car worth RM72K when it feels like driving a RM100K car.

Puncak Brinchang, the highest road in Malaysia. I drove my Preve to bring my family to have a camp there without any problem. My turbo works well and as expected, boost much torque to easily climb that land.

Am I sounds like a Proton salesman? Hey no! I'm an executive in the mid town of JB. My Preve is my daily ride home-work-home=160km.

There are several things need Proton attention. The sound insulation is quite good but not well enough for me. I've drove a K5 and if Proton could as silence as that car, it would be an advantage in market competition.

Then the transmission matters. I'm very satisfied with it's CVT system which made me feels like driving an electric car which have no gear exchange! Again I believed, if Proton could develop an All Wheel Drive (AWD) and deploy to all their new model, it would be a huge impact in sales, especially europe market where the people concerned on safety and functionality.

    Thanks for the sharing.
